Noida could be heading towards one of its most ambitious urban transformation projects, with the Noida Authority preparing a ₹29,315-crore plan to develop a 25-km riverfront along the Hindon River.
The proposed project aims to transform the river’s surroundings through new roads, embankments, green spaces, land development and public recreational facilities. The plan is being developed along the lines of Lucknow’s Gomti Riverfront and could significantly reshape the urban landscape across parts of Noida.
However, the project is currently at the proposal stage and will require approval from the Uttar Pradesh government and other relevant authorities before implementation can begin.
₹29,315 Crore Investment Planned for Hindon Riverfront
According to the proposed plan, the project is estimated to cost around ₹29,315 crore, with a substantial portion of the budget earmarked for land acquisition and development.
Around ₹15,000 crore has been proposed for land acquisition, while approximately ₹7,240 crore could be spent on land development. The plan also includes around ₹2,425 crore for the construction of six-lane roads and ₹4,000 crore for the rehabilitation of nearly 10,000 families living along the riverbanks.
Other components include embankment work, filling and related riverfront infrastructure.
25-Km Riverfront to Be Developed in Three Phases
The proposed Hindon Riverfront project is expected to be developed in three phases, covering a total stretch of approximately 25 kilometres.
The first phase would cover around 12 kilometres, extending from the DSSC Road bridge to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway bridge.
The second phase would cover approximately 5 kilometres, between the Bisrakh Road bridge and the DSSC Road.
The third phase would cover another 8-kilometre stretch between NH-24/9 and the Bisrakh Road bridge.
The phased approach is intended to allow the large-scale project to be taken forward in stages rather than developing the entire corridor simultaneously.
Six-Lane Roads and Green Spaces Along the River
The proposed development is not limited to beautification of the riverfront.
The plan includes six-lane roads on both sides of the Hindon River, along with green spaces, walking areas, seating zones and recreational facilities for children.
If implemented, the improved road network could provide an additional connectivity corridor across parts of Noida and Greater Noida while creating new public spaces along the river.
The project could therefore combine transportation infrastructure with urban landscaping and recreational development.
Rehabilitation of Nearly 10,000 Families
One of the major components of the proposal is the rehabilitation of families currently living along the Hindon riverbanks.
The project has earmarked approximately ₹4,000 crore for rehabilitation of around 10,000 families. This component is expected to be important in determining how smoothly the proposed riverfront development can progress.
Land acquisition and rehabilitation are among the largest elements of the proposed budget, highlighting the scale of the planning required before construction can begin.
Potential Impact on Noida’s Infrastructure and Real Estate
A project of this scale could have wider implications for Noida’s infrastructure and real estate market.
Better road connectivity, landscaped public spaces and organised development along the Hindon corridor could increase the attractiveness of surrounding areas. Improved accessibility could also support future residential and commercial development in locations connected to the riverfront corridor.
However, any potential impact on property prices or investment demand will depend on the project’s final design, implementation timeline and completion of the proposed infrastructure.
The development could also complement Noida’s wider infrastructure expansion, including road projects and connectivity improvements across the Noida-Greater Noida region.
Project Still Awaits Government Approval
Despite the scale of the proposal, the Hindon Riverfront project is not yet an approved construction project.
According to officials, the proposal will require state government approval, while the Noida and Greater Noida authorities and the irrigation department are expected to work towards an agreement to take the project forward.
The project has evolved from earlier studies of the Hindon and its floodplains. Environmental considerations, flood dynamics and groundwater recharge have previously been identified as important factors in assessing development around the river.
A Potential New Landmark for Noida
If the proposal receives the necessary approvals and is implemented as planned, the Hindon Riverfront could become one of Noida’s largest urban development projects.
The combination of road infrastructure, green spaces, recreational areas, land development and rehabilitation could significantly change the character of the 25-km corridor.
For Noida, the proposed project represents more than a riverfront beautification exercise. It could become a major infrastructure and urban-planning initiative with long-term implications for connectivity, public spaces and development along the Hindon River.
For now, the focus remains on securing the required approvals and establishing the framework needed to move the ambitious proposal from planning to implementation.
